Hi, I'm Yvonne McArthur. I'm a fiction and fantasy writer, and this is my playground on the net. Every week I post one short story to my blog. The stories are in a variety of different styles and genres, and range from contemplative to downright ridiculous. I hope you have as much fun with them as I do!
Want to know more about me?
I grew up in the highlands of Guatemala where I off-set my book worminess by tramping up volcanoes, swimming in caldera lakes, and eating buckets of mangoes. I studied creative writing at Houghton College in the boonies of New York State and, via a roundabout route, have found myself living back in Guatemala.
When not at my day job or my standing desk, I go mountain biking, muck around in the garden, or read a good book.
Ever since I was a kid with dorky bangs and a propensity to read books in cypress trees, I've dreamed of writing a novel. When I was 23, I decided to give it my first honest go. At the end of 30 days I had written a 50,000 word manuscript a la Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month). It had no plot, no antagonist, random cows, ferret smugglers, and a toga-wearing ghost who'd faked his own death. The main character landed himself in prison for accidentally trafficking in Godiva chocolate.
Let’s just say this: the only place to go from there was up.
My goal is to author fabulous novels. To that end, I've spent the past five years hammering on my keyboard, scrawling words in notebooks, screaming, crying, and shouting in triumph. I've had a bout with carpal tunnel, pulled my hair out over plot holes, and developed a rebellious refusal to surrender. Now you can join the fun by reading (and subscribing!) to my blog.
